BioShock Infinite is a first-person shooter video game developed by Irrational Games and published by 2K Games. It was released worldwide for the Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 platforms on March 26, 2013.
Set in 1912, the game has protagonist, former Pinkerton agent Booker DeWitt, sent to the floating air city of Columbia to find a young woman, Elizabeth, who has been held captive there for most of her life.
Though Booker rescues Elizabeth, the two become involved with the city's warring factions: the nativist and elite Founders that rule Columbia and strive to keep its privileges for White Americans, and the Vox Populi, underground rebels representing the underclass of the city.
During this conflict, Booker learns that Elizabeth possesses strange powers to manipulate "Tears" in the space-time continuum that ravage Columbia, and soon discovers her to be central to the city's dark secrets.
Vigors are the primary abilities that Booker DeWitt acquires in BioShock Infinite. Similar to Plasmids, they grant the user access to extraordinary abilities, and are powered by a single resource: Salts. Vigors were made by Jeremiah Fink after witnessing Dr. Suchong experiment with ADAM to create Plasmids. Fink stole these Plasmids and realized that by adding an oxidizing agent to them he could make them drinkable, rather than needing to be injected by the user. Fink needed to collect ample Sea Slugs via "underwater expeditions" to the deepest parts of the Atlantic Ocean. The cost of 'drinkables' requires 10 times as much ADAM to produce, putting a strain on Fink.
As with Plasmids, Vigors do cause notable side effects, visible on the user's arm. Every Vigor has an alternate use activated by charging the Vigor, ranging from enhanced attacks to stationary traps. There are a total of eight Vigors, each of which can be upgraded twice over the course of the game at the Veni! Vidi! Vigor! vending machines scattered throughout Columbia.
Bucking Bronco is one of the Vigors in BioShock Infinite. Manufactured by Simon Pure, Bucking Bronco allows the user to cause the ground to crack like an earthquake, throwing and suspending enemies into the air, thus rendering them momentarily defenseless and increasing the damage they take.
Charge is another of the Vigors featured in BioShock Infinite, allowing Booker to ram into enemies at high speeds and deliver a powerful melee strike.
Devil's Kiss is a Vigor in Columbia, created and sold by Fink Manufacturing, which allows the user to manipulate and generate fire. Casting the Vigor throws a projectile which will rebound on the scenery and, upon impact with an enemy or after a set time, will explode and deal heavy damage to nearby enemies.
Murder of Crows another Vigor in BioShock Infinite that gives control over groups of crows. Casting the Vigor sends out a swarm (or 'murder', hence the name) of crows that will attack all enemies in front of the player, momentarily distracting them and dealing continuous minor damage.
Possession, granting Booker DeWitt the ability to control machinery, causing vending machines to spit out a bounty in Silver Eagles and combat automatons to temporarily fight for Booker.
Return to Sender is one of the eight Vigors Booker DeWitt obtains in Columbia over the course of BioShock Infinite, granting Booker the power to stop incoming gunfire. Casting the Vigor instantly deploys a shield in front of Booker that protects him from incoming damage.
Shock Jockey is, created and sold by Fink Manufacturing. It grants Booker DeWitt the power to manipulate electricity in the form of charged crystals: casting the Vigor will shock a single target, temporarily stunning them and doubling their damage intake.
Undertow is created in the city of Columbia, Undertow gives the user the ability to attract and repel adversaries. When cast, Undertow reflects all incoming projectiles and pushes back all enemies in front of Booker DeWitt, knocking them away and throwing them to the ground if they land back down.
